UPPER WEST SIDE, NYC | COMPLETED
A duplex apartment combined half a century ago for an individual is reinvented for a growing family in Manhattan. Construction costs were kept to a minimum by using common finish materials such as veneered plywood, generic ceramic tile, paint, thrifty Ebay finds and easy-to-assemble components from Ikea and The Container Store. The local availability/ low cost of materials allowed for the modest budget to be spent on labor to produce minimalist details rather than ornament. The result is a simple, restrained marriage between a traditional pre war and modern interior vernacular.
The millwork, steel and construction were all done by RISD alumni artisans, Thomas Beckman, Carl DiPaolo, Cary Paik.
